Jobs and Opps Tortoise Media, The Conversation, The Scouts, TBIJ and Many, Many More ✨
All of the opportunities you'll want to apply for this week 🌻
Hello! Fern here introducing the newsletter for this week - and I’m bringing with me some good news – I’m delighted to have my first article for Journo Resources up and published. It’s all about how to navigate the Universal Credit system as a journalist. My own experience of being on Universal Credit was incredibly confusing and a little scary. I thought that there was no way I could even get into journalism whilst being on it, let alone start or maintain a freelance career.
When I first asked on Twitter to speak to journalists about their experiences with Universal Credit, I received an influx of responses and retweets. Many of the people that I spoke to mentioned that they too hadn’t been able to find helpful resources for navigating the system. It seems to be something a lot of people experience, but none of us really talk about.
However, the wonderful journalists I spoke to helped to illuminate the different ways that being on Universal Credit can bolster your career. Preparing for and writing it has been a lengthy process, as so many different elements emerged at every turn - and I didn’t want to miss anything out. From different ways of registering with the Universal Credit system, to charities and support that you can access if you’re on the system already but still struggling.
I do hope that my piece will be useful to journalists currently on Universal Credit, and those who may go onto the system in the future. I’d also love to hear if there’s anything I missed – we want this guide to keep growing over the coming months, to help as many people as possible. It’s not finished yet!
