Jobs and Opps at Welsh Cycling, The Telegraph, STV News, Sifted.eu and Many More 🚲
Everything you should apply for this week and beyond...
Hi there! My name is Vuyokazi and I am so thrilled to be introducing myself as the new memberships manager of Journo Resources. I’m sure many of us, regardless of where we are in our respective careers have leaned on JR to navigate through an industry that appears mystifying at the best of times. I remember first starting out on my university’s paper and being a bit dismayed by how formulaic and out-of-touch the curriculum felt. How I couldn’t see myself within any of this. As a working-class person of colour, Journo Resources, Writers of Color and Inside The Newsroom were just some of the tools that helped me imagine a place for myself. So, to be able to break down the barriers for others coming up feels somewhat karmic and just.
Already in my first few weeks at JR, I’ve been so inspired by the incredible team – their warmth, drive and commitment to the vision of an equitable future. Inayia Angel, for example, is currently working on projects to highlight the voices of care-experienced folk, while April calls for the systemic change we need for disabled journalists to thrive, as they should. And we’ve only been able to do these things with the support of members like yourselves. Now, more than ever, we need these resources if we’re to truly democratise the journalistic landscape. We need you. And I’d like to personally thank you for your support. Without you we wouldn’t be in a position to transform things for the better.
These past few years have been incredibly difficult for us all, our individual resources have inevitably been stretched thin. With cost-of-living rapidly rising, with growing threats to our health employment and housing, these spaces where we can gather and hold each other together feel all that more significant. When thinking about my new role here, I’m reminded of Audre Lorde’s quote: “without community, there is no liberation […] but community must not mean a shedding of our differences, nor the pathetic pretence that these differences do not exist.” I hope this encapsulates what we hope to build over the coming months.
First up, I’d love to hear from you about how we can make Journo Resources and our memberships work better for you, by filling in this short form. We want to build this vision together. As a thank you, we’re also giving away a free paid membership to one respondent. I’m thoroughly excited by this next iteration of Journo Resources – I can’t wait to hear from you via the form or on vuyokazi@journoresources.org.uk.
