Jobs and Opps at The Telegraph, FT Weekend Magazine, Space.com, The Wire, and Many, Many More đ°ď¸
Plus, support we're offering to those affected by redundancy.
For those of us still logging into the hell site that is Twitter/X, itâs been a week for journalism. There are no words to describe the layoffs at Reach, but âstaggeringâ and âguttingâ might get close. Some 450 jobs are set to disappear â or to put it another way, 10 per cent of the whole workforce. One in ten. You only have to glance at your timeline to see the indiscriminate axe. Reporters. Editors. Apprenticeships. The womenâs sport team. Entire sites. This is Reachâs third round of redundancy in 2023.
Of course, this is far from the only set of redundancies to shake the journalism industry this year. Saga. PinkNews. gal-dem. BBC Local Radio. VICE. The News Movement. Bustle. I could say a lot about the unique circumstances of each of these losses and what they mean for the wider journalism industry. But, to be honest, thereâs more than enough of that over on Twitter without me. Whatâs more important to us is the people â at the sharp end of every redundancy figure is a journalist out of a job, a journalist who needs support.
We canât make new journalism jobs at Journo Resources, but we do want to provide what support we can. Next week weâre running a one-off workshop for anyone, from any outlet, whoâs been affected by redundancy. This is entirely free and will cover practical skills and tips about finding and applying for jobs, as well as exploring your options. Weâll also be providing journalists with a free JR membership to help them access further support and hope to follow up with specialist redundancy support and resources on our website. Please do sign up or share with others.
Itâs been a shit week, but remember youâre not alone and this isnât because of you. Together, weâll work through this.
In solidarity â look after each other out there.
