About a year ago we sent out our first fully-formed reader survey. The goal was to try and make sure we were reaching everyone we should be and double our efforts in weak spots. We wanted to know what we could do better and what we could build for the future. So, this week, as we sat down to curate this year's survey, it seems a fitting time to tell you what we've been working on off the back of last year's results:
A New Newsletter Key: You told us that you wanted more opportunities across the UK and that it should be easier to see where they are, if they offer remote work, and if they close soon. We've added a new key to the newsletter today to show all these things. While we can't control where jobs are created we'll be tracking what we list— aiming to have at least 40 per cent of jobs outside of London in each section each week. We're a UK-based and focused newsletter, but we're adding a key for global opportunities too.
Our CV Library Is Almost Ready: You asked for an open-access library of CVs that got people to interview so you could see what they did right. We've just got the draft of the page ready and our newsletter subscribers can preview it here. We're hoping to get this live for the first week of June, but it needs a few more CVs to get it ship shape — if you're happy to share one of yours please send it over to hello@journoresources.org.uk and we'd be super grateful. We're very happy to anonymise anything you need.
We Built A Transcription App: JR Transcribe was also one of the most requested things in last year's survey. It's now live on MacOS as part of our membership and offers a privacy-focused service with unlimited transcripts and minutes. You can check it out here and there's a two-week free trial to see if it works for you. Some more updates are coming soon to make it even better and yes, it's cheaper than Otter.
There's tonnes more we're working on — from filters on our jobs board to a new build of our lists pages so you can more easily find what's open and closed, so watch this space. We're a super small team but we really do use every piece of feedback we get. We can't thank you enough for your support during the past year and beyond. The new survey will be in your inboxes soon and we hope it can kick off another year of innovations and improvements to help make the journalism industry a fairer, more representative place.
