Jobs and Opps at Fluid Finance, Novara Media, The New Humanist, the BBC, and More ❄️
Everything that should be on your list to apply for this week.
Next Wednesday is my birthday. I’ve always kind of enjoyed the fact it falls on the last day of November — it feels like an apt and clean way for the seasons to change. As a result, I steadfastly refuse any notion of Christmas festivities beforehand. November is for crunchy leaves, fireworks, and opening birthday presents. December is for advent calendars, pantomimes, and festive drinks. Perhaps that makes me the grinch, but I’ve always enjoyed the clean lines in creates in my year.
This year, we’re also using it as a marker for our magazine too. Up until this point, we’ve been working on a secret shorthand-related project for next year, but from December 1, it’s all stations go for our magazine. It’s been a year since we last cracked open the flatplan, started twiddling with the settings on InDesign, and winced at the price of printing a magazine — no joke, it’s doubled since this time last year.
Putting it together to me is almost a festive task — it’s a space to celebrate the work of our amazing fellows during the past 12 months and to look forward to a better year ahead for all of us. I love getting creative with the activities inside — last year we had colour-in achievement badges and a paper aeroplane to send to editors who don’t pay up, alongside the ‘sensible’ resources to help you plan stories and get paid fairly. And that’s before we even get to the original features.
So, as we get ready to put this year’s edition together, I’d love for you to join us on the journey, as pre-orders are now open. You can treat yourself to a copy, grab one for a friend, or donate one to someone who needs one. Every single penny goes back to supporting our fellowship and helping us to get through one of the trickiest times of the year, as job adverts all but dry up for Christmas. If you can support us, we’d really appreciate it — and we hope you’ll love what you get sent in January too!
PS. If you want to reach a load of wonderful journalists, we’re also taking ad bookings for both the magazine and this newsletter, but we’re filling up! Our print booking deadline is November 30 and you can reach 13,500 journos. Just drop me a line on jem@journoresources.org.uk.
