Jobs and Opps at Insider, Noon, Novara Media and Many, Many More 🌟
Everything you need to apply for this week and beyond 🗓
Climate change (or, more aptly, the climate emergency) has finally started drifting to the top of the news agenda. I don’t think many of us would deny that it’s taken too long to get here, but amid an endless news cycle of rising sea levels, burning wildfires, and other extreme weather events it’s a reality that’s becoming harder and harder to ignore.
We won’t lie, when it comes to climate reporting, it can feel like there’s a lot to unpack. Amidst the policy, jargon, and real human impacts, it can feel overwhelming as a reporter who is new to the beat. But as Jon Allsop of Columbia Journalism Review told us back in 2019, “it’s not a story that should be siloed. It’s the story of our time.” “It intersects with every single area and every single beat. Saying you work in a small town newspaper or an entertainment publication? That’s not a good enough reason not to be doing climate change. There are so many angles to it.”
So, in the run up to COP26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which is being held in Glasgow at the end of the month, we want to play our part in giving you the tools you need to report on the climate, whatever your beat or publication. As well as putting together new guides (watch this space), we’re kicking off with a practical hour-long workshop with Euractiv’s Kira Taylor. We’ll be running through the basics of climate reporting, the big issues coming up at COP26, and debunking the jargon you might come across. We’ll also be highlighting great examples of climate reporting in other beats, and providing a tonne of resources you can take away. Do let us know what you’d like us to include – and we hope to see you there!
