Jobs and Opps at Black Ballad, InsideHousing, Mashable, FT Weekend And More 📰
Everything you need to apply for this week in one big list 🗒
It really feels like it’s been events central over at Journo Resources over the last week or so. We’re running four this week alone, and three next week. Some of them have even been in person, from Liverpool to Cambridge. But one in particular has stood out, with the clientele being ever so slightly younger than usual.
In partnership with the Imperial War Museum, myself and our design lead Jack spent the weekend at Duxford Airfield, chatting to kids aged anywhere between three to 11 about how journalists ask questions and then record the answers in shorthand. They were then able to practice their new skills on real veterans, primed and ready to answer any question that came to mind.
Armed with a huge pack of homemade shorthand flashcards, we helped children spell out their names from our big pile of curly kuhs, ruhs and aahs (although I did have to make some DIY Ys, as that was where the printer gave up). We were then able to show them just how it would look all mashed up as Teeline. While some were absolutely more interested in the planes (absolutely fair enough imo, we were next to an actual Concorde) it was incredible to see the fascination from some that, yes that squiggle really is your name.
Our team spends a lot of time speaking to people to have already started on their career path to journalism, whether that’s during their A Levels, university course of beyond. But, really it’s never to young to start inspiring people that this could be the career for them. In fact, doing it younger is even more important, so people can realise it’s possible in the first place.
PS. We’re also thrilled to have teamed up with On Road Media for our how to report event series, looking at how to cover common topics ethically and responsibly. First up, next Tuesday, we’ll be looking at how to report on poverty. We only have 20 live tickets left!
