50+ Jobs & Opps at the BBC, ITV's Lorraine, The Independent and More đ§
Everything you should put on your application list this week â¨
This weekend I finally finished the 2019/2020 accounts for Journo Resources. Itâs not exactly a job that I enjoy. No matter how good I feel my system of spreadsheets is â and Iâm pretty proud of the colour coding â Iâm always left scrambling to try and a receipt from two years ago that appears to have evaporated.
Itâs never a fun job, but it felt particularly weird this year, especially as I sifted through the backend of 2019. As well as the usual invoices for job adverts, there were also things I barely remember. Namely, train tickets.
Before the pandemic, train journeys were a huge part of what I did. We all know that the media industry centres way too heavily around London, but as one person, I can only be based in one place. So, I made it my mission to take Journo Resources around the country as much as I could. In the dying months of 2019, there are receipts from Manchester, Sheffield, and Southampton, to name just a few.
It all feels so unthinkable now, in our world of Zoom events and not going further than the four walls youâre currently sat in. In some ways itâs been a blessing â Iâve realised we donât always need to drag ourselves to every corner of the country to bring people together. Itâs enabled us to think differently and put on more events than ever before, reaching more people and more speakers than I could have imagined.
Online events certainly wonât be leaving Journo Resources, and weâre committed to expanding our programme even further. But looking through train tickets as the sun shines outside, I canât help but miss the times where we got to bring real people together in a room. Hopefully it wonât be long until we get to jump on a train to see some of you very soon.
PS. If youâd like to know more about our accounts and how weâve spent our money, watch this space. Our accountants are just putting the final document together, and then weâll make sure to publish an accessible run through next week.
