Jobs and Opps at the BBC, Yellow Eve, Newsweek, Women in Journalism and More 🔥
Everything you need to apply for this week, all in one place 😇
Last summer was a weird one for all of us, and it was an especially strange time for people taking their first steps into the journalism world. At Journo Resources, we decided we wanted to do something tangible to help, and as a result, the first ever JR Fellowship was born.
From more than 200 applications we selected 12 amazing journalists at the very start of their careers. The trial scheme, supported by our friends at The Journalists’ Charity, The Printing Charity, and The Society of Editors aimed to provide our fellows with one to one support, mentoring, training, and the chance to write an original feature.
We’ve learnt a lot during the course of the scheme, and we hope we’ve managed to make a positive difference to the people we’ve worked with. Today, finally, we’re thrilled to actually start publishing their pieces – which, of course, they’ve been paid for. Over the next six weeks we’ll be publishing all 12, who will be looking at a range of underreported issues across journalism in the UK.
First up, we look at an issue that is particularly relevant to this newsletter itself –discrimination within job adverts. Sirri Rimppi looks at the term ‘native English speaker’, why it’s discriminatory, and how bilingualism can actually benefit your journalism career. Take a read through the whole thing here and watch out for the next in the series later this week.
